A few months ago we learned about Camp Casco, a free week-long summer camp in the Berkshires for childhood cancer patients and survivors aged 7-17. They pride themselves on giving children of all ability levels the opportunity to have a traditional summer camp experience, many of whom are not able to do so without special accommodations. The wheelchairs they have previously used require campers to be pushed by counselors, and since the camp is designed to empower campers, allowing them to maneuver their own chair around the campsite is really important.
When Founder and Camp Director Erin Fletcher approached us about loaning a few Freedom Chairs for their week-long program, we were thrilled to say yes! We'll be sending 2 chairs up for their program at the end of August. While we don't have a pediatric version of the Freedom Chair, our 16" seat works well for bigger kids and teenagers. We're excited to be helping this important cause, and look forward to feedback from the campers and counselors about how the Freedom Chair handles those mountain trails.
