Freedom Chair riders aren't just our customers - they're part of the GRIT family. Today's Rider Spotlight features Jan Whitlow. Read on to learn about his adventures!

"It opens so many doors. To me it's an emotional therapy as well."

About Jan

Jan is a 45 year old adrenaline junkie who sustained an incomplete lower spinal cord injury when he was 17.

"I've always been an outdoors person my whole life . . . I played sports, did everything."

Over the last 5-10 years, Jan had to slow down a little because, as he said, "daily life in a chair is hard on your shoulders."

Why did Jan decided on the Freedom Chair?

Jan discovered the GRIT Freedom Chair when a good friend of his shared a Facebook link with him.

" I was looking for something to help me get back outdoors without putting more strain on my shoulders . . . I saw this chair, and I almost didn't go through with it because I was scared it was going to hurt my shoulders, but [Tish] convinced me that people have had good results who've had shoulder problems. So, I gave it a shot, and it has not bothered my shoulders like I was fearful of."

Also helping to convince Jan to take the plunge and get his own Freedom Chair was our 30-day money back guarantee.

"With the money back guarantee thing I thought, 'I've got nothing to lose, might as well try it!'"

What activities does Jan enjoy doing in the Freedom Chair?

Living in Florida, Jan loves frequenting state parks in the winter time:

"Down here winter months are my more active outdoors since I don't handle the heat well. I like to go to state parks. Down here it's pretty sandy soil.”

What is Jan's favorite thing about the Freedom Chair?

“The places that I can go. We find off road trails in the parks. I could never have done these trails in my regular chair. In the past I've tried it, and my friends have assisted me. And now I don't need much assistance.”
