Squad Shout-Out: Splore

Our Squad Shout-Out series was created with the intent shine a spotlight on the fantastic organizations who are working hard to make the world a better place. Today's Shout-Out  honors Splore.

"Splore changes lives by challenging and expanding one's notion of ability through meaningful outdoor adventure. Splore connects underserved and disabled populations with Utah’s great outdoors through canoeing, rock climbing, skiing, snowshoeing and river rafting."
-SPLORE

Now celebrating 40 years of adventure, Splore has promoted the basic tenet that everyone, regardless of ability or life circumstance, deserves the opportunity to live life to the fullest. "In order to get the most out of life, one must have the confidence to try new things and have a sense of the possibilities life holds for them." Splore does this by empowering and instilling greater confidence in their participants through canoeing, rock climbing, skiing, snowshoeing, and rafting adventures. Splore trips leave participants with an expanded sense of what they can accomplish both individually and as a family.

"Historically, it was thought that to care for someone with a disability meant sheltering them from the world.  Risk-taking was feared and avoided.  At Splore, we believe that there is dignity in risk-taking and that it is an inherent part of living a full and robust life.  We manage the risk of our adventures, so that every Splore participant feels empowered and dignified."
