GRIT Pay it Forward Low Income Fund
A fund to help everyone move beyond the pavement.
Here at GRIT, we're committed to helping riders afford the mobility they need to move beyond the pavement. We've created the Pay it Forward Low Income Fund to help riders in difficult financial situations afford a GRIT Freedom Chair.
Applications for grants from the fund will be reviewed by the GRIT team. Selected beneficiaries will receive a grant to help cover much, but not all, of the cost of a refurbished GRIT Freedom Chair (typically $2495). These chairs have been lightly used, and have been inspected, refurbished, and certified by the GRIT assembly team. Currently, we're forecasting that we'll be able to subsidize around 5 chairs per year. The fund is new and we're working on strategies to increase the fund so that we can help more people. If you're applying to the fund, we also recommend checking out our other financing options.
If you have any questions about this application, the fund, or other financing options, please call us at 1-877-345-4748. We're happy to work with you to find the best solution for your specific situation.
The application must be submitted by filling out the online form. You must apply for yourself. Applicants received on behalf of another applicant will not be reviewed. Applicants must be residents of the United States.
We're proud to announce the first grant from the fund! Here is the press release.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much will the grants cover?
The program is need-based. Our application asks how much you're able to contribute to the purchase as well as a variety of lifestyle and financial questions to ensure that you're eligible. We will not cover 100% of the cost of the refurbished chair for any applicant because we believe that it's important for people to have a sense of ownership of their mobility devices. However, the amount that you can contribute towards the purchase will not be the sole determinator of whether or not you'll get the grant to cover the rest. The purpose of this program is to help as many people move beyond the pavement as possible.
Can I donate to the fund?
Maybe. We're not a nonprofit, so we're not able to accept tax-deductible donations. We're looking into partnerships with nonprofits that would enable us to accept donations. If tax-deductions aren't important to you, we can take your non-tax-deductible donations immediately. Questions? Contact us.
What about the GRIT Freedom Chair? Does any amount from sales of that product get contributed into the fund?
No. Our primary goal is to keep the retail price of the GRIT Freedom Chair as low as possible. We understand that many of our GRIT Freedom Chair customers don't have extra cash to spare, so we are not using any fraction of those sales for this fund.
Which products will the grants cover?
Right now our goal is to help as many people as possible to live their lives beyond the pavement. To that end, the grants will help subsidize the cost of refurbished GRIT Freedom Chair 3.0s. Grants cannot be used to pay for the GRIT Freedom Chair Forward.
